Content that ranks in 3 months or less
Following up from our previous newsletter, we look at the next step after creating your low difficulty keywords strategy which is creating the content.
Welcome to the newsletter that is showing you how to convincingly rank a new website in under 3 months, or your old website that you haven’t touched in months.
Last newsletter, we discussed the best strategy for your keyword research using the example of a resume builder website. If you didn’t get a chance to read the issue, you can do so here.
TLDR;
The secret is to target keywords that are low difficulty and low-medium search volume.
The search volume, no matter how low as indicated by your keyword tools, could actually be 2-3 times more in reality, so that volume should not be cast in stone.
For new websites, it’s always better to target keyword difficulty below 15% - the lower the difficulty, the easier it will be to rank.
Following up from that, the next stage is creating your content. However, not so fast.
Remember the screenshot we had of final keywords? It’s here:

We could easily jump into content creation at this point, but there are 2 very significant steps we would have missed:
Analyzing the metrics of the ranking websites for each keyword we want to target
Understanding the search intent of the keywords based on what Google is ranking at the top
We want to do more investigation into whether we really have a chance to rank for these keywords. Why?
Many high authority websites have targeted that keyword, essentially making it a very competitive low difficulty keyword
Most of the results ranking for the keyword are commercial pages (maybe homepages, sales pages, product pages, etc) making it hard for a content page to rank. This will mean that we also create a commercial page for the keyword rather than your normal article page - search intent right there.
Let’s take an example:
The first keyword in the screenshot above is “LinkedIn resume builder” - we are going to analyze the top 10 ranking pages to see how to best approach our intention to rank for this keyword.

My SEO tool is showing me that these are the top 10 ranking pages in the US. You can do a quick search on Google to compare but the results should be fairly similar.
Looking at the DR (Domain Rating) column in the screenshot above, the lowest DR is 58. Our new website has a domain rating of 0. This means that a lot of high authority websites have targeted this keyword.
So why was it categorized as a low difficulty keyword? Because of the other columns:
The “Words” column shows that only 4 pages have any useful content. Kickresume has the most content at 3,166 words while 6 pages have no content on their pages - at least not much if any.
The “UR” (URL Rating) column shows that all the pages are rated quite low. The highest UR is 21, and the lowest is 0.
The “Backlinks” column shows that 4 of the ranking pages have less than 10 backlinks.
The “Domains” column shows that 7 of the ranking pages got their backlinks from less than 10 unique domains. Not decent.
In summary, despite the pages being from websites with very high authority, the metrics of the pages specifically are very low.
I know you want the real answer: can we compete with our domain rating of 0 at this point? Yes we can.
Let’s check the second part of this analysis.
Upon clicking on each of the pages, I found that 40% of those top pages were commercial pages going to actual "LinkedIn resume builder” product marketing pages with sign up or purchase buttons. They look like this:

30% of the pages are going to LinkedIn pages with thin content. 1 page is going to a Reddit thread, and another 1 result is the “People also Ask” questions.
No articles or blog posts ranking for this keyword.
In order to stand a chance with this keyword, we need to create a commercial page that can outcompete the ranking commercial pages. The reality is we won’t displace the LinkedIn, Reddit and “People also ask” results.
Since we are selling a resume builder, we can displace any of the ranking resume builders.
Our next move is to make a “LinkedIn resume builder” page, like the one in the screenshot above, and just do a bit better than the competition by:
Creating great marketing copy and additional support content that brings value to the reader. So our word count will be useful to mention.
Build some backlinks. Most of the commercial pages had backlinks but not that many. We can boost our page with up-to 10 backlinks as we continue to build more backlinks for the whole website so that it looks organic. Most backlink companies will charge you a premium for 10 backlinks - if you buy from us, you get the best price in the market. Our niche edit backlinks will be placed on pages that are aged, and relevant to your niche or content for only $320 for 10 backlinks.
This exercise was just an example of how we analyze keywords to find real viable keywords, and the best content format for them to rank. You can do the same analysis for your website.
If it’s just too much work for you, reply to this email and we can create a keyword strategy for your website and send you back all the action points at a very affordable rate.
In the next newsletter, we will let you know how we go about creating the content outline, and the content itself in a method we like to call human-assisted AI. Stay tuned for that one.
