Refined AI Prompts for Better Content

Learning how to leverage AI's capabilities to produce powerful content means understanding how to phrase your prompt and what to ask to get the best outputs.

In partnership with

Welcome to the newsletter that wants your AI prompts to be as good as possible, and to act as launchpads for great content.

In the last newsletter, we tried to explore why AI content is very hard to master, and why essentially it is harder to rank reliably in the long-term spec of things.

If you missed that issue, catch it here.

In general, we ended with the notion that AI content is not the end of content creation. And the human hand is still required to help the so called “artificial intelligence” sound intelligent.

AI content in itself is not good enough but is still very useful for creating your topical outlines, getting title suggestions, or even drafting your first copy with.

Knowing how to use AI content requires that you first understand how to ask the AI application to give you the best it can. That’s where AI prompts come in.

In this article, I will share an AI prompt that we have used to craft the first copy of content that after a few improvements ranked very well.

Prompt:

An example article about “common resume mistakes”

Draft an informative post titled '10 common resume mistakes to watch out for’

Structure the content with an introduction that highlights the importance of creating a great resume.

Include sections on:

  • Leaving a lasting impression on the hiring manager

  • Properly communicating your achievements

  • Increases the chance to get an interview

List 10 common resume mistakes that most people do. Include this mistakes in the list:

  • Lack of Specific Accomplishments

  • Poor Formatting and Readability

  • Incorrect or Missing Contact Information

Each mistake should be accompanied by:

  • an example where that mistake has been committed or how it could be committed

  • the right way to go about it instead

Conclude with a compelling call to action encouraging readers to watch out for the common mistakes provided and create great resumes that stand a high chance to get an interview.

This is a great prompt because it:

  • Shows our understanding of the topic and provides the AI tool with something to work off of.

  • Guides the AI tool on structure, what we want to discuss in different sections and how we want it to be delivered.

  • Provides us with just enough meat to go in and add a human touch so it can get 10x better.

  • Ensures that we reduce the common mistakes AI tools do like repetition of sections or concepts and lacking focus that makes AI tools just go on and on.

You will notice that this is quite different from giving the AI tool the prompt below:

“Write an article about common resume mistakes.”

Go ahead and try out those two prompts using your favourite AI content tool to see the difference. Which one gives you a better result?

Essentially, your AI prompt just needs to go deeper than the usual one sentence command. You can go deeper and deeper into the topic to extract as much value on the topic as possible before starting to write it.
